[[Oil]] is an important resource for Mining which is used to operate all [[Mining Machinery]]. It is obtained by [[Oil Wells]] and the [[Oil Factory]] and can be increased by upgrading the [[Oil Wells]]. Only a finite amount of [[oil]] can be stored at once, which can be increased by upgrading the [[Oil Silo]]. [[Oil]] can also be increased with the help of the [[Brewing|Infinite Oil Potion]].

The Pickaxe and Mining Machinery work by incrementing a progress bar every tick (second). Once that progress bar has been completed the Pickaxe or Mining Machinery roll their loot tables. The base number of ticks is 12. The base number is used for the pickaxe and any mining machinery type where only one of that type is activated. If there are two machines then it is 6 and three machines is 4.

The pickaxe is always working while the mining machinery can be individually turned off.

To determine production rates you need to divide the ore output chance by the number of ticks required to complete the progress bar (12, 6 or 4).

For example:

The Pickaxe always produces [[Stone]] [[File:Stone.png|30px|link=Stone]], has a 1 in 2 chance to produce [[Copper Ore]] [[File:Copper.png|30px|link=Copper Ore]] , and a 1 in 340 chance to produce [[Iron Ore]] [[File:Iron.png|30px|link=Iron Ore]] for each completion of the progress bar.

The Pickaxe progress bar takes 12 seconds to complete. This means that the Pickaxe produces on average 1/12 Stone per second, 1/24 Copper Ore per second, and 1/4080 Iron Ore per second.
